Universal Studios Great Britain Concept art deep dive and rumours

With the official announcement of Universal Studios Great Britain, Universal Destinations & Experiences also released the first piece of concept artwork for the park. While the image appears intentionally vague in places - likely to conceal specific themed areas until a later date - it hasn’t stopped fans and theme park enthusiasts from diving in and speculating.

In this article, we’re breaking down the concept art, exploring the latest rumours, and sharing our thoughts on what each section could represent.

Entrance

From what we can tell, the entrance to the park contains what looks like ticket gates before entering a first plaza containing that appears to house the iconic Universal Globe, a familiar centrepiece found at other Universal parks around the world.

Positioned directly behind the globe is a large decorative archway, strongly resembling the main arch at Universal Studios Florida. This contrasts with the more futuristic, portal-style entrances seen at Epic Universe, suggesting a more traditional Universal Studios aesthetic for the UK park.

Hollywood boulevard

Stepping through the archway, guests appear to enter a Hollywood-themed boulevard - a walk-of-fame style street lined with palm trees and classic architecture. The layout feels similar to Hollywood Boulevard at Universal Beijing Resort, though with one key difference: the Beijing version is fully enclosed under a glass canopy, while the UK version appears to be open-air.

Despite Britain’s famously unpredictable weather, Universal seems to be embracing the outdoors here. After all, as Alfred Wainwright once said: "There's no such thing as bad weather, only unsuitable clothing."

Along the right-hand side of the boulevard, a building stands out - one that resembles a classic theatre facade. This could point to a possible stage show or effects-based attraction. One rumoured possibility is “Lights! Camera! Action! Hosted by Steven Spielberg”, a high-energy show found at Universal Studios Singapore and Beijing. Its arrival in the UK would fit both the Hollywood theme and Universal's attraction playbook.

Along the left of the boulevard looks to be the large 500-room hotel announced by Universal. If this is the case, then guests can expect to stay right in the heart of the resort.

Themed area 1

Leaving to the left of the hollywood boulevard (going clockwise around the lake), the first major themed zone appears to be a family-focused area. The concept art shows what looks like a collection of flat rides, including a balloon spinner and a classic teacup ride, suggesting this area is designed with younger guests in mind.

Toward the rear of this zone, there’s a larger show building - a structure that could potentially house an indoor dark ride or interactive family attraction. Its placement and size hints at something more than just scenic design.

Community speculation is already in full swing, with two standout possibilities making the rounds:

  • A Paddington-themed land, capitalising on the iconic British character's global appeal and local roots.
  • A DreamWorks-inspired zone, possibly pulling from franchises like Trolls, Madagascar, or Shrek, all of which are family favourites and have featured in Universal parks worldwide.

Whether it’s the charm of Paddington Bear or the colorful chaos of DreamWorks animation, this area looks poised to offer a wholesome, family-first experience, balancing out the thrill rides likely found elsewhere in the park.

Continuing clockwise around the lake, one of the next standout elements is a large amphitheatre built directly onto the water’s edge. This could become the park’s main venue for nighttime spectaculars or live performances, potentially mirroring the role of Universal Orlando’s lagoon show or Universal Studios Japan’s water-based productions. Expect something big - pyrotechnics, music, maybe even drone shows.

Just behind the seating area lies a section that has sparked major fan speculation. The architecture here strongly resembles a 1950s-style American town square, with classical façades, and a courthouse-like structure - all pointing toward one iconic possibility: Back to the Future.

While the far end of the square features a more ambiguous building (likely altered in the concept art to avoid spoilers), the layout and theming feel very reminiscent of Hill Valley. Could this be Universal bringing Back to the Future back to life in a brand-new way?

And then there's the coaster.

Behind the themed buildings, dominating the skyline, is a massive roller coaster with a blue track. From the concept art, it appears to be a launch coaster with a striking vertical spike element.

Could this be a DeLorean-themed thrill ride that launches to 88mph? Fans are buzzing about the possibility.

Even more intriguingly, the sheer height of the spike has people asking if this could become the tallest roller coaster in the UK, potentially surpassing Thorpe Park’s Hyperia, which opened in 2024 as the current record-holder.

Of course, nothing here has been officially confirmed. This area could also be an entirely new original IP - a strategy we’ve seen at Universal’s Epic Universe.

Themed area 3

At the back of the park, nestled behind the central lake, lies a zone that’s already generating major buzz - and for good reason. The architecture of the buildings, especially the distinctive rooflines, strongly resembles those found in existing Jurassic World-themed areas at other Universal parks, particularly Universal Studios Beijing and Islands of Adventure.

This has led many to believe that Universal Studios Great Britain will feature its own version of Jurassic World, potentially offering a mix of dinosaur encounters, prehistoric landscapes, and cutting-edge attractions.

To the left of the land, the concept art shows what appears to be two drop towers. Whether these are purely for thrills or tied into a narrative experience (such as an escape or observation tower) remains to be seen.

But the real centrepiece? A massive show building located at the back of the land.

Speculation points toward a potential UK version of Jurassic World Adventure, the highly-praised dark ride from Universal Studios Beijing. That attraction combines trackless ride technology, animatronics, and immersive screens to put guests in the middle of a dinosaur chase gone wrong — and it’s become a fan-favourite.

Could this building house something similar? Or is Universal planning to surprise us with a brand-new, UK-exclusive Jurassic experience?

Nothing is confirmed yet, but the visual clues in the concept art — combined with Universal’s love for this franchise — make this one of the most anticipated and likely IPs to feature in the park.

Themed area 4

Moving further clockwise, the next section of the concept art appears to either be a continuation of the Jurassic World area or an entirely new land. While some architectural elements are consistent with the previous zone, the building styles and colour palette begin to shift - hinting at a potential change in theme.

What stands out most in this area is a large roller coaster with a striking green track. Its size and layout suggest a high-thrill attraction. Could this be a Jurassic World themed coaster? Fans have been speculating on an alternative: a Wicked-themed coaster, inspired by the hit West End musical and the upcoming two-part film adaptation.

If true, this could mark the first major theme park attraction based on Wicked, bringing the world of Oz to life through twists, turns.

But that’s not all.

Just behind the roller coaster sits a large show building, designed to resemble a grand theatre. Interestingly, the concept art appears to show an explosion or burst of action emerging from the structure and huge area of water - an unusual detail that’s led many to speculate that this could house a Water World themed show stunt show. Could it be a clone of the American shown?

Or, could this be a live-action James Bond show? Could Universal Studios Great Britain become home to 007’s first-ever theme park experience? With action, gadgets, car chases, and iconic music, a live-action James Bond show would be a perfect fit for a high-octane, entertainment-heavy attraction. Alternatively, could we be seeing another water world themed show?

Themed area 5

The fifth area, located near the far edge of the park layout, is one of the most mysterious sections in the concept art. Unlike other areas with sprawling outdoor attractions or visible landmarks, this zone appears to be entirely enclosed within two large show buildings, leaving much to the imagination.

Despite the lack of clear theming, the rumour mill is already churning — and a few major IPs have emerged as top contenders:

Rumours include:

  • Lord of the rings
  • Kung fu panda
  • Shrek

While nothing is confirmed, the tight, self-contained layout of this area suggests a heavy focus on immersive indoor attractions, potentially using cutting-edge projection, animatronics, or ride systems to bring beloved stories to life.

Themed area 6

The final themed zone in the concept art is a bright, colourful area located toward the edge of the park layout. It stands out thanks to its playful design, vibrant architecture, and a lighter green roller coaster weaving through the space - all of which hint at a more whimsical, animated setting.

According to strong community rumours, this could be an Illumination-themed land, most likely focused on the wildly popular Minions franchise.

The layout and visual style bear a striking resemblance to Minion Land at Universal Studios Beijing, which features family rides, interactive elements, and themed restaurants inspired by Despicable Me, Minions, and other Illumination hits like Sing and The Secret Life of Pets.

This could also be a multi-IP land, giving Universal a chance to showcase more Illumination characters in one space.

Final thoughts

While none of these themed lands or attractions have been officially confirmed by Universal Destinations & Experiences, the concept artwork offers a thrilling glimpse into what might be in store for the UK’s first full-scale Universal theme park.

From a potential Jurassic World adventure and record-breaking coasters, to immersive Hollywood-style lands and beloved IPs like Minions, Wicked, Paddington, or even James Bond, the speculation surrounding Universal Studios Great Britain is only just getting started.
